Bullying is Bad
Although the act of bullying is by no means acceptable, bullies sometimes cannot help it. Sometimes bullies have a bad household environment, or they may have a lot of anger bottled up with no way to get rid of it. So all the anger, sadness and depression of a bully is taken out on a student that may not be able to fight back or control anything else in their lives.
Effects of bullying can include: depression, suicide, dropping out of school, fights/rivalries, low self-esteem, and much more.
Statistics from the F.M.S. Bullying Survey that was taken this school year shows that most bullying happens in the form of teasing, name calling, and intentionally being left out of a group. Those aren't the only ways of course. Others include: having possessions be taken away, in writing, threats, and the well known physical bullying. Also, most bullying at F.M.S. happens in the halls during passing time and in the classrooms. The top four reasons why a student is bullied are: weight, having "weird" friends or dates, getting good grades, and the type of clothes a student wears. About one-half of the school population will be bullied at some time.
Hopefully, with the greatly appreciated help of the F.M.S. students, we can decrease this percentage.
